Resting is important to give your brain a break, Meditation is a form of this. Read about a University of Southern California student's experience with meditation and the impact it has had on her life.
Throughout the duration of PAH 160, Bedtime class, we were tasked with engaging in a form of rest for 10-20 minutes everyday. We have also had to keep track of a resting journal to notate our experiences with trying out different forms of resting. Upon getting this assignment, I discussed the different ways I was tasked to practice rest with my 5 roommates. 2 out of the 5 of them jumped at the chance to get me into meditation as I was reading them the different ways I could rest. They told me about how it really helped to relax them, lower their anxiety over time, and change their overall perspective on life. I decided to give it a shot and can definitely say it has impacted my life for the better.
I reached out to other people in my life to interview about meditation for this project and found that a lot of people have experienced a significant positive change in their life after beginning to meditate daily. One persons account stood out to me, this person is Caleigh Canales, an Architecture student at USC. Read her answer below
“When I pause and connect with my breath it slows down my nervous system, allows me to think clearly and understand my environment and relationships better.”
What have you noticed after beginning the practice of meditation?

"Since beginning to meditate I feel a far stronger connection with and awareness of myself and my emotional state. When I am met with challenging circumstances or emotions I recognize them far earlier and am able to identify how I am feeling and why and take steps to improve my situation. This allows me to respond appropriately to what’s going on around me and spend less time anxious or stressed. When I pause and connect with my breath it slows down my nervous system, allows me to think clearly and understand my environment and relationships better. My mood is overall much happier and my outlook on life and challenges is even more optimistic. I love meditation and think it is a skill everyone should try to develop and should be taught by parents and in schools. It makes me a more balanced and well rounded individual and a better person and friend!"
